John and Edward (Jedward....oh dear me!)

So right, these two over confident, crazy haired twins seem to be gripping the nation at the moment with their out of tune singing and out of time dancing. Well, all I have to say is if they can make me laugh as much as they have they can't be half bad.
This is for my buddy in London.
Get involved Justine!

To busy to think
Wow, it has been mighty busy the last few weeks both in work and at home. So a thousand sorries for no new little sketches or doodles over the last few weeks but there will be something new up soon....ish.

"The Amazing World of Gumball"

Finally I can mention something about what I have been working on the last while....
"The Amazing World of Gumball" got it's first press release on IFTN today.
"The Amazing World of Gumball" got it's first press release on IFTN today.
It is a Cartoon Network show and Boulder are working along side two other studios, Dandelion in London and Studio Soi in Germany, to make the "magic" happen for Cartoon Network.
It is all about a surburban family and mainly the antics of Gumball the son who is a cat and his best friend Darwin, a fish. The show is a mix of 2d flash and 3d animation and realife backgrounds so it is something very different to anything we have done before. It is very funny and looks great. So have a gander at the press release and watch this space...

I didn't really cry...

So I was out horseriding with my brother on Wednesday and went for a little canter in the stubble fields....except it didn't quite work out that way for me. The canter became a gallop and bye bye Gill. Straight off into a ditch full of mud and nettles. Rodrigo got a little(lot) carried away with himself and I had no choice in the matter. I was like a chocolate coated Gill after getting out of the ditch. Covered in mud. Hilarious!

Backgrounds
Here is something a little different. I tend to stear clear of bgs, maybe something to do with a fear of perspective that grew on me over my years in college. This was a bg I did for an idea I was working on. Clearly you can see it is quite rough. But then my boss wanted to use it for something so he called in the heavies to fix it up a bit/lot.

and here are the results. Fran got to "Fransify" it and it turned out brilliant. This is what I am going to strive to do in future with my artwork. Take it to the next level and make it look like this. The composition works much better, shapes are more exciting, there is much more depth to it and the textures look great.

Amsterdam for my Birthday
I haven't been drawing but I have been really busy in work with the new project and with still no computer it makes things pretty difficult to squeeze in any blogwork. We have taken loads of staff on and every day seems to be another challenge but we are getting there....kinda.I managed to get away for a few days to Amsterdam to visit my brother for my birthday weekend. After nearly missing our flight through no fault of our own, myself and Aido got there and had a deadly weekend. Seens lots of places and there was lots going on. We met some really cool people. It's always a pain having to come home when you have such a great time. There is some picyures anyway to keep my blog alive for another few weeks anyway.

Finch, Darwin and what's left of the Mob
To make up for the complete lack of recent artwork in the last couple of months, which I had already made an excuse for in my last pathetic post I decided to show you all my fish. Darwin (those of you who I work with will know why I picked this name) is the one with what looks like he is wearing and orange swimming cap, an Oranda. Finch is the big black one, a Black Moor and then if you look really closely there is one of the mob, a Minnow he is really small. There used to be two more in his gang but due to unfortunate mobster activity in their bowl they sadly passed away. I only bought Darwin at the weekend and he seems to be fitting in quite nicely although Finch has to be quicker for his food now. Which he always finds hard to see because his ginormous bulbous eyes are at the side of his head.Hope to post something exciting (art) really soon.

No Computer...
Hi There. I know I haven't been posting in a while but I have reasons. My laptop died *sniff* *sniff*.... I was working on a couple of pieces but it is really difficult when I have no machine at home. I am looking into buying a new laptop and should have it within the next month. I am very excited about that.
Also, we have just started a new project in work and have been busy getting that all ready to go. I don't think I can say much about it though for another little while but what I will say is, it is a supertoon, really different, hilarious, kwerky and the style is deadly! So watch this space and I'll be able to post more about it.
I have created a new workspce at home and was able to buy myself some really nice new art materials from a voucher my mates gave me for my birthday lastyear. So over the next while I hope to post alot more handrawn pieces, sketches and stuff......now, that's hopefully ;)

A Great Start to June
So here we are and after 2 years of no summer we finally got some sunshine. The past few days in lil' ol Dublin have just been just the most gorgeous days in such a long time. Trips to the beach and up to the Dublin Mountains for some fantastic views of the city followed by BBQ's and maybe a beer or two.
It sure beats the grey skies, rain and cold that the Irish have become so accustomed to. Long may it last I say.

Real Life Monsters

Had a very quite Easter so rather than stuffin' myself with easter eggs I decided I would try my hand at makin' one of my little monsters into a real monster. I haven't really used a sewing machine properly before so it was vwery, vwery interesting. At one stage I had sown his arm on the insideout part....DOH! He is kinda bockety here and there and alot of everywhere but I think that adds character (well, that's what I'm sticking too).
Oh and his arms are suposed to be that long and his legs that short....a few people have said did ye mix the arms up on the legs? Nope, that was intentional!!!

Ben, my rescue dog.
Hey now everybody. Here is some great news. I have adopted a little Shih Tzu, now called Ben. After the tragic loss of Molly the house felt so empty so I decided to adopt a rescue dog. I found Ben on the http://www.friendsofbendogrescue.com/ website by a total fluke. So I rang straight away to see if he still needed a home. A week later, he was rehomed with me and is doing really well. Ben was found totally neglected, matted and underweight. He is such a clever, happy, effectionate little dude. I am so chuffed he is living with us now.The people at The Friends of Ben Dog Rescue Centre do some seriously amazing work for animals that have been thrown by the wayside and forgotten about or abused. It is heartbreaking to see so many dogs on SO MANY websites looking for homes. So if any of you out there are looking for a new family pet. Maybe try a rescue centre instead, rather than a brand new puppy and give some little runt a fresh go at a deadly new life.
I know it sounds like one of those save the animals ads but it's true. Ireland should be ashamed of the neglect of so many of their animals. Some of these Irish rescue centres/ pounds send off dogs to other countries to be rehomed because those countries don't have these enormous problems with stray dogs.
That's my rant done with for now.
Don't you think he looks a bit like an Ewok ?!?

2009 in OZ
Happy New Year to all who visit my blog. I am at this very moment in Australia. I decided to pack my bags and get the hell out of the doom and gloom of little ol' Dublin for the Christmas and New Years. It is pretty surreal celebrating Christmas in 30 degrees heat. It has been great just getting away from everything and relaxing for the few weeks and hangin out with the Ozzie part of my family, IN THE SUNSHINE. I was deprived of my vitamin D so badly. Ireland is a cruel, cruel place.
I am still managing to wear my wooly hats here too though, I don't think I will ever change. I get all lot of stick from everybody here...."what? you can't be bloody cold here mate!"
Anyway, thanks a squillion to all who have visited my blog and especially those who have come back again to see more.
I looked back over my New years blog entry for lastyear. It was funny. I had myself down to be a non-smoker this year. Pifft, that never happend....

Mr Stephen McGann
http://mcgannimation.blogspot.com/
This site will be well worth checking out. I worked with Stephen for a few years and hope to again soon. He is a very talented artist and an amazing animator. Anyway, here is his new blog. It speaks for itself. Stephen was always playing tricks on the other animators in the studio, his favourite being a Mr Rob Etchingham. You where in for umm....a treat if you got him as your Kris Kindle!

Wall-E Doodle
This is just a gilldoodle of Wall.E I did while waiting eagerly for the new Pixar movie. I watched the latest trailers and an interview with Andrew Stanton about the other robots in the movie. As if Wall. E himself wasn't cute enough then they introduce M-O. There is going to be a cute overload...I love it...and did I mention I cannot wait for the movie, only a month left. Yeay!

Sniffle,sniffle
I have been all sick for about 3 week now. Tonsillitus set the ball rolling, followed by one of the worst head colds ever. It kinda felt like being underwater. Things sounded funny and I couldn't see too well alot of the time so ended up making faces at people who probably thought I was giving them dirty look or somethin'. Ah well. Feeling mucho better today though.

Annie Awards
How bout this for frickin' great news. El Tigre won two Annie awards a couple of weeks ago over in L.A. The catagories it won in where Character Design in an Animated TV Production (Jorge R. Gutierrez) and Best Animated TV Production for Children. It was also nominated for Best Music in a TV Production and Monica Kennedy of Bouldermedia (pictured above inbetween Dave Thomas, her boyfriend Aiden, Sandra Equihua and Jorge Gutierrez) was nominated for Best Character Animation in a TV Production. Unfortunatly Moni didn't pick up the award but she well deserved the nomination. It's a shame the show won't be going on any further but it left on a super high note.

Tazmanian Devil

Is was about time I got back to basics with my pencils. It has been so long since I have drawn anything with my trusty pencil. I think a lot of the delay was to do with fear of doing "A Bad Drawing". So I sucked it up and got stuck in. I don't think it is that bad. I'm gonna try from now on and do much more pencil work, get rid of some of that rust I allowed to build up!

Our Trip to L.A for The Emmy's
Shortly after the Emmy nomination my boss asked myself, Paul and Dave if we would like to head over to L.A for the ceremony.....Our answers where, Hell Yeah! Two weeks later after panicing over cocktail dresses and shoes we arrived in Los Angeles.
Myself, Paul,Mike Moon, Dave(Bg God) and Rob in the Disney H.Q the day we arrived in L.A.
After quite a brief encounter with the Red Carpet. This was taken in the Shrine, the venue for the 2007 Emmy's. Sitting down for 4 hours is tough I tells you, tough!
This was the ball afterwards. We where on the upper level looking down on the cheesy rotating jazz band. The bars where all made out of ice. That was pretty deadly!
Oh, we never won the Emmy but who cares we where nominated and that meant alot too. The experience was amazing and we got to meet some really fantastic people. We'll just have to go back again and next time WIN!

Chi-Whaa-Whaa!

What is a Scangers favourite pet?
A Chi-Whaa-Whaa!
This is the latest addition to the Boulder Blog. The theme was Scangers....To which some people will not know the correct meaning......
SCANGER or skanger is a derogatory term for a stereotypical member of a youth subculture group in Ireland, similar to the chav in the United Kingdom.
The stereotypical scanger is known to wear a tracksuit, gold jewellery, a replica football shirt (especially Celtic F.C, athelitic shoes, tattoos, fake Burberry caps, gold piercings, is from a working class area, and speaks with an exaggerated accent. Male scangers tend to have cropped ((Commonly Bleached)) haircuts and drive cars with loud sound and exhaust systems and tend to be called boy racers due to their tendency to drive at speed, Pyjamams, bleached-blonde hair and large hoop earrings are popular with howiyas (females).Scangers have a reputation for anti-social behaviour.

Me.....T,he,he!

Hi there. Well, it's all been incredibly exciting here for the last few weeks. We have moved into a new studio right in the centre of Dublin City.....and I mean smack bang in the middle. Today is our first day in the new studio and it is fresh and clean and new and deadly. I really like it anyway! Oh and get this, I was really worried that my two plants would get left behind in the move and mentioned it to one of removal guys and he personally took them down here in his car. Big up to Mr. Removal Man.....your the best!
I have just posted a little picture of myself that I did for AidO))) last week. Seen as I have haven't been posting much I figured I would just slap this up....even if it is of myself. For those of you who don't know me it may be of some entertainment value.

Little Kid in PJ's

Tis been a while since I have posted anything but sure I have no time to be doing anything but work these days. We are on the last episode of the first season of El Tigre, and the pressure is on. I would be lying if I said I will be glad of the break . Just to mess around with some other little ideas I may have swimming around in my head. They always tend to stay as ideas and never materialise into anything more. Sure we'll see.
